Albert Betts, Jr. has been Executive Director of the Insurance Council of Texas since 2014, representing nearly 400 property and casualty insurers.
A former Texas Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation (2005–2008), he led major system reforms after appointment by Governor Rick Perry. Previously, he was a partner at Thompson Coe Cousins and Irons, LLP, specializing in insurance law and legislative advocacy.
With over 30 years of experience in insurance, law, and public policy, Betts co-edits Larson’s Texas Workers’ Compensation Handbook and serves on the ICT Education Foundation board. He holds both undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
